How We Began. . .
In the mid 1950's some
people who lived near the newly developed Lake Tapps and some people
from the Dieringer Bible Church saw a great need to have a church up
at Lake Tapps. In June 1967 after much planning, the Fire Hall was
rented for $10 per Sunday and Sunday School and Worship Services were
begun. Visiting Pastors and Missionaries preached each Sunday.
Judy Naef had attended
a Village Missions church before moving here from Montana. She met
with the Board of the new church and Rev. Robert Rayburn of Village
Missions. Lyle & Clara Birkey who were serving on a VM field in
Garden Valley, CA were asked to come and pastor the church. The
Church met in the Fire Hall for 3 years and then moved to the newly
built elementary school in 1970.
In 1972, construction
began on the church on Tacoma Point with $5,000. Our policy was "No
borrowing, No Sunday labor, and use Volunteer labor." The church was
dedicated debt-free in 1973.
In August 1986 the
Forest Canyon Road Property was purchased from the Olympia Presbytery
who had planned to build a church, but changed their mind.
In June 1991 work
began to clear the site for building. September 1991 saw the sale of
the old church building and parsonage to Truth Tabernacle.
In
December 1991 the new parsonage was begun and the Birkey's
moved in on June 6,
1992.
September 1992 ground
breaking began on construction of phase 1 of the new church facility.
In February footings were poured and in April framing began.
We moved into Phase 1
in June 1994. Then began working on Phase 2 which was the
Multipurpose room and 5 classrooms.
In January 1997 our
new Pastor and family, Tim & Sue Heath and their four children came to
LTCC from a Village Missions field in
Boardman,
OR.
April 1997 Lyle and
Clara Birkey retired after serving over 29 years at LTCC.
We praise the Lord for
the way He has blessed the church through the years. Our purpose
continues to be. . .
"to honor God by
introducing people to Jesus Christ, helping them grow in the faith and
equipping them to reach others."
